How Many Does It Take?
During a celebration worship event at CCC we asked the question, How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
Seems like a silly question doesn’t it? I mean, what does it matter? However there is something important to remember about asking questions.
I heard about a fascinating study a few years ago. According to the research of Rolf Smith, kids ask 125 probing questions a day.
If you have ever been around a child you know that’s true. If you are parent there are days when you wish kids came equipped with a “mute button” or they would operate in “silent mode.”
But that ask questions.
Why? You ask.
Good question!
Simple reason: kids are interested in everything.
There is an innate curiosity that is God-given. That’s why they ask 125 probing questions per day.
Want to know how many probing questions adults ask each day? Six!
That means that somewhere between childhood and adulthood we lose 119 questions per day!
Here’s THE point: keep asking questions.
I love the way Albert Einstein said it: “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.”
I love that last phrase: “never lost a holy curiosity.”
Some questions are silly. No doubt. However, if you are serious you find a Savior who will answer seriously. The answers will come honest, real, and may not be what you want to hear. But He will answer.
The reason is simple, Because He loves His kids.
