R.I.O.T. – Righteous Invasion of Truth (Session Four)
This CORE series serves as the bookend of where we have been.
We as a church have had to look at ways to reimagine ministry in a world of turbulent elections, civil unrest, pandemics, school closures, shutdowns, face coverings, social distancing, and a cancel culture.
Last year we began a very interesting journey in our CORE studies. As we elected new leaders we offered – Is Jesus a Democrat, Independent, or Republican?
Then we followed it up with 3 studies on the End Times…The final session of the end times trilogy was a stand-alone session focusing on America in the End Times….
And that brings us to this study. This serves as the bookend to the set of studies we have done in CORE and builds upon what we have looked at in both our Mid-Week studies and our Celebration Worship studies. This new series is called RIOT
Watercooler conversations have shifted in our culture….
It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do – there in your face is a constant barrage of what is happening in the world around us. It creates fear, angst, concern about the things going on and is born out of a need to be able to get some type of handle on them, trying to understand them, and most importantly trying to figure out how to navigate them.
The questions that emerge – tend to always come back to the big one – “what do I do as a follower of Christ?”
There is no shortage of commentators, opinions, and emotional manipulators that will gripe, groan, grovel, or grimace at the way things are – but again…we keep coming back to what do we do? How do we do it? And how do we know it is the right thing to do?
The church has to be willing to step out, step up, and step into the conversation. Because, let’s be honest about the world we live in. There is always someone willing to drive the narrative, so do you want to be driven or do you want to drive? Get ready for a real, rational, relational, and revolutionary way to navigate the culture in a way that is transformational – RIOT in CORE @ 434.

Letting Seuss Loose – Cancel Culture Series (Session Four)
We have been making some important discoveries in our Cancel Culture series as we have seen how what some have called culture really is a cult. The Cancel Cult of Culture tries to silence and destroy anything and everything they do not like. It can be scary but if we follow Jesus we realize that we just can’t live that way. The call of Jesus is to rise above the cancel cult of culture and discover no matter how loudly the culture screams, no matter what the culture says, and no matter how hard the culture works to cancel you – Jesus has something else to say and what He says is the only thing that matters. Get ready to wrap up this series with one more look deep into the culture we live in and see how to navigate it in a way that honors Him.

Canceling the Cancel Culture – Cancel Culture Series (Session Three)
In our Cancel Culture series we have seen that what people call “cancel culture” has nothing to do with culture at all – instead it is a cult. So as the Cult of Cancel Culture runs amok in our world, how do we as people who want to touch and change the world with the love of Jesus react? In this session, we go back and discover a man how had made so many mistakes that he could have been canceled – but Jesus refused to do it. Instead of canceling him, Jesus gave us a model of how we should respond to others when they have made mistakes, messed up, and managed to damage their lives with the choices they have made. It is time to Cancel the Cancel Culture.

Easter Cancels Culture – Cancel Culture Series (Session Two)
Happy Easter! This day is a day where we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. In spite of the best efforts of the culture to cancel Jesus, they did not. Not only did they fail to cancel Him the most amazing thing happened, Jesus accomplished something incredible on that first Easter morning. He canceled the very things that culture fears the most. This morning, we revisit the day that a dead man stopped being dead, and His life changes everything. This is a Cancel Culture Easter celebration at The Church @ 434 – we are so glad you are here and a part of it!
Culture Cancelling Jesus – Cancel Culture Series (Session One)
Cancel Culture is a phrase that describes something happening in the world around us. When something is canceled, it is nulled, ended, voided, done, over, no longer wanted … you get the idea… But today that same idea is also applied to people, that sense of cancel is the basic idea behind the slang meaning of canceling a person. When a person is canceled, they are no longer supported, valued, or considered to exist.
Usually if someone is said to be canceled is because they have done something to offend someone else or taken a position that is not popular with the mainstream of thought.
It might surprise you to find that although the phrase seems fresh, the idea of cancel culture is not new. As a matter of fact, it has been happening for thousands of years.
As we move into the Easter season, we begin this series with a look back in time where the things we discover impact our lives here and now. The first century culture did their best to cancel Jesus. It didn’t’ work then, it doesn’t work now, and that is great news for each of us.
